Engine 4. Full chrome small block Chevy with tri-Y headers, Holly, Edelbrock manifold and factory 4 speed Hydro. Note that Chevy released a 4 speed automatic based on the Olds-Pontiac transmission but with Chevy bolt pattern. This was available on 57 Chevy pickup. I have one myself. It is very heavy but has a hell of a 1st gear. By the way, this is not a repaired engine but a complete build with various parts of mine. Painted the fan belt and re-chromed the trans with the "Chrome Pen" mentioned else where on this site.
Engine 5 is a rock stock small block Chevy for either my 56 Chevy sedan or 57 Chevy truck. It would be a 265 or 283c.i. two barrel with a 3 speed transmission. A similar engine might have come in the 56 Chevy Nomad wagon. But it had a 4 barrel carb and likely an automatic transmission. By the way, I think there may have been no worse transmission than that Chevy 2 speed.
I painted the oil filter and two toned the starter-solenoid for more detail. The carburetor is gold which is not far from the copperish color used back then. There is a generator instead of an alternator because that was the current technology of the day. It even has an oil bath air cleaner. Compare this to engine 4 above and engine 2, both small blocks. |
