289 Cobra
This is the 289 Cobra detail page. Starting with the basic 289, as mentioned, I added custom made oil filter and fuel bowl, made from scrap plastic. Found a dual quad manifold that could be cut to fit and was approximately correct . I dug up some Cobra valve covers that really look nice. It came with an automatic trans which is really a good fit for a mild custom street truck. The Cobra would be plenty powerful enough for this light pickup.

The right top image is of some parts being considered for the Cobra. Radiator hose and exhaust pipes. The 2 pictures below that are nearly finished engines. Note the automatic trans dip stick on the right photo. I took a piece of electronic solid core hook up wire (about 22 gauge) and striped it down to the wire on each end. On the top end, I bent the wire into a curl which makes a perfect dip stick. I drilled a tiny hole in the trans for the wire on the other end to glue into. I put a dab of glue from near the top to the upper block to reinforce it. Stock exhaust manifolds were found that look like real Ford manifolds. The fan belt has an alternator and belt which I added some black paint to make the belt realistic. The air cleaner is added in the next view. The last view is a side view where you see the dip stick, fuel filter, oil filter, distributer and a U-Joint on the tail shaft. You can zoom in ti see it better.
This turned out to be a very nice Cobra motor and I am tempted to push the envelope by trying to add spark plug wires (and distributor) and possibly fuel lines and linkage to the carbs. That will be quite a challenge. I think I will wait on that.
